Intervention techniques are the intentional, observable, replicable actions home visitors may take to support or motivate clients’ engagement in specific behaviors to improve an outcome. Examples of intervention techniques include demonstration, providing feedback, goal setting. HARC’s Behavior-Focused Intervention Technique Taxonomy draws from seven existing technique taxonomies from related professions.

Through a series of work group sessions, surveys, concept mapping activities, and feedback tasks with over 58 home visiting (HV) researchers, model representatives, and HV program staff, HARC developed a taxonomy of 81 behavior-focused intervention techniques with definitions.
